There was no writing that I found on the piece. It was acquired in the 1950’s by an engineer that was a collector and travelled worldwide for his profession. Chinese carved and gilded wooden panel, likely from the Qing Dynasty or an earlier period. These panels were often used as architectural elements or decorations in temples, homes, and furniture. They typically depict scenes from Chinese mythology, historical events, or daily life. Overall approximate dimensions- 18 1/2″ x 24″. Inside panel – 17×12. The intricate carving and gilding suggest it was made for a wealthy patron or an important setting. The figures, architecture, and landscape elements are all rendered in high relief, creating a dramatic and dynamic composition. Such panels are valued for their craftsmanship and historical significance. I will send any more pics as requested.
