This is a beautiful late 1800s Chinese hat box. It is made of cowhide leather, hand stitched and lacquered in Imperial Red. This box is a perfect cube measuring 12.5 inches on each side. There are labels on the interior of the box and it appears that there was some type of packing material inside at some point. Also, there’s a dessicated seed pod about 1.5 inches inside that appears to have been dyed a gorgeous ultramarine blue – I wasn’t able to find out much about the pod. It comes with the box, though, and is obviously quite old. This piece is unique among the hatboxes I found due to its shape, color and labeling of the interior. It was imported to the US from China at some point prior to 2000, and has been in climate controlled storage since. The box smells faintly of linseed oil and leather inside. It has no other odors and shows only age related scratches and wear to the surface. The hinges and handles work fine. Please check my photos and feel free to ask questions. 19th century Chinese early Dynasty brush pot. Very nicely hand made and hand painted. Thicker bottom than top and thick base made it very stable and heavy. No crack, hairline or repairs are found. Size: approximately 5.5 inch diameter and 6.5 inch tall. Condition: excellent condition with no breaks, hairlines, or chips. Please refer the photos. Note: wood base not include.

Qing Dynasty Kingfisher feather Pendant Antique VINTAGE Chinese 19th Tian-tsui
This is a pendant made from laying kingfisher bird feathers on silver metal. The technique and the beautiful blue fluorescent feathers were highly prized and sought after in 19th century China. Kingfishers are tiny birds and it takes a lot of skill to use their feathers in this manner. The technique, called tian-tsui, means “dotting with kingfishers” and involves adhering the feathers onto metal. This technique disappeared during the Chinese Revolution in the 1940’s. It’s a fabulous piece of history. Head size: 3″ wide x 1 1/4″ long. Add me to favorites.

LARGE AND BEAUTIFUL CHINESE ANCESTRAL PORTRAIT. QING DYNASTY, LATE 19TH CENTURY. About 38″ x 21 1/4″ sight size. 44″ x 27 1/4″ overall. Wonderful watercolor / gouache portrait on paper of a seated man in court dress with a mandarin square on his blue robe. Panel depicts a silver crane or pheasant, identifying him as a fifth rank civil official. Seated on a rug with foo dog images. Matted with a gilt painted silk mat. Laid down on a foamcore back board. Some mild toning commensurate with age. Colors bright with no paint loss. A VERY IMPRESSIVE 19TH CENTURY CHINESE ANCESTRAL PAINTING.
